When Tina and Javier Avila’s Casa Tina restaurant was bursting at the seams because of it outstanding success in Dunedin, they jumped at the opportunity to expand their friendly Mexican Restaurant in a new location—right next door! They faced a dilemma, however, what to do with the space that had nurtured their business and their family for the last 19 years. That’s when they came up with the idea of opening a wine and tapas bar right next door to their newly enlarged flagship restaurant.

So, Pan y Vino was born. What better name than “bread and wine” for a place where friends can come to share the breaking of bread and the drinking of wine, a social tradition that spans the generations and the globe. Whether you relate this to a spiritual ritual or your cultural roots, we hope that the result is the same—that you come to relax with us, to share your stories of life, laughter and love, and that you find a sense of peace here in our new place, Pan y Vino.
Pan y Vino serves a wide selection of wines, organic pizza, salads, coffee and desserts. It’s the perfect place for a quiet rendezvous or meeting with a group of friends. On Teacher Tuesdays we offer a 20% discount with IDs, and you can sample our wine free during Dunedin’s 2nd Saturday events.
